The music manager’s role is unique though often barely visible to the outside world. Building careers and businesses for their artists, music managers are at the heart of the music industry’s ecosystem, interacting with all its strands.
The music manager is the most direct partner to the artist and creator and navigates on their behalf, the complex relationships within the music industry, allowing the client to focus on their artistry. The manager oversees the artist’s wellbeing, providing direct support and mentoring. Whilst understanding and nurturing the artists’creativity, they bring a business acumen capable of handling all commercial aspects. This means dealing with a plethora of business relationships with recording and publishing companies as well as other interlocutors who are central to an artist’s career development. The skills set required is both diverse and complex, requiring a mastery of all aspects of the music business: live events, recording, publishing, marketing, streaming and brand deals to name but a few.
